10 Ways to Eat Healthier

1. Eat smaller portioned meals 6 times a day: When you eat only three meals a day, you only stay full for a small amount of time which causes you to snack more. By eating six meals a day every two-three hours, you are keeping yourself full and avoid snacking.
2. Out of sight, out of mind: Keep all your snacks on a high shelf. If you open your cupboard and the first thing you see is those chips and chocolate, you’ll go directly for it. Instead, keep your snacks on the top shelf out of sight.
3. Make half of each meal fruits or veggies: A lot of us don’t get the recommended amount of fruits/veggies. Each meal, make half of it a fruit or veggies. For breakfast, have a whole piece of fruit, and orange or a banana. For lunch, bring some carrot or cucumber sticks with you. For dinner, have a big helping of veggies. Throughout the day munch on pears, berries and or sticks of peppers and celery.
4. Drink Water: You should be drinking about a gallon of water a day. Always have water on hand to drink. Sometimes, your body tells you your hungry, but really it’s just dehydration. If you just ate within the last hour and you’re feeling hungry, try drinking some water.
5. Rule out Sugary drinks: Soda (yes, DIET soda too!) is extremely bad for you. If you are one of those that can’t stick to just water during the day, try crystal light packets added to some water. Crystal light is sugar free and low in calories. You can also try drinking flavored seltzer water.
6. Eat in: Eating out can add thousands of calories to your meal fast. Keep healthy options in your house. When you don’t want to cook and feel the need to go out, heat up a can of soup packed with veggies or roll up some turkey and cheese rolls dipped in honey mustard.
7. Eat ice cubes: A lot of people eat when they are bored or eat because they just have the need to chew on sometimes. Instead, fill up a cup of ice and munch on that. It keeps your mouth busy and hydrates you all at once. Another option, chew a sugar free piece of gum.
8. Whole grains: Switch out your white bread and spaghetti for whole wheat bread and whole grain spaghetti.
9. Indulge yourself: Keeping yourself from eating your favorite snacks won’t help. Instead, enjoy your favorite snacks in small portions and only once or twice a week. Don’t end every night with that bowl of ice cream, instead choose two nights out of the week to enjoy your favorite snack.
10.  Exercise: I know this isn’t a tip to eating healthy, but this is one important way to stay healthy. You don’t need to do an hour workout everyday and tire yourself out to stay healthy. However, if you can get to the gym at least 20 minutes everyday you will be doing the trick! Some others things you can do to add fitness to your busy schedule is, park your car further away from the store, take the stairs instead of the elevator, sit on a fitness ball instead of a chair, there are many things you can do to add some extra exercise to your day.
