Interview with Susan Bernhardt

We got a chance to interview Susan Bernhardt, the writer of the new webseries MISS BEHAVE which hits the internet later this spring. In this short question and answer Susan tells us a little bit more about this new series, the challenged they faced and what is to come.
1. What inspired you to write Miss Behave?
The two lead characters in Miss Behave, Tori and Billy Archer, are supporting characters in another pilot I wrote called REIGN. When I was trying to come up with an idea for an online web series, I thought….why not write a spin-off for the teens. So, that’s what I did and now we are planning to pitch both shows together!
2. What is Miss Behave about?
Miss Behave follows the story of Tori Archer (who gives us an inside look at her feelings through narration) the daughter of a mega-successful publicist to the stars, and a well-known author. She is the typical good girl (attends a Malibu Christian school) but finds herself in the middle of lies when she falls for a “bad-boy” that she knows her childhood best friends won’t approve of. At the same time, her older brother Billy is dealing with his own issues, including sexual identity problems while trying to regain his spot back in college (he was expelled). Both kids have little guidance from their parents at this point in their lives, which makes it even more difficult to keep them on track. Miss Behave is your typical teen drama, like Gossip Girl or 90210, with real issues that many teens face everyday.
3. What were you looking for in actors when you started casting?
It was important to me to find and hire actors, that really deserve to be working and give them an opportunity to part of our project. I know how difficult the business is, and many talented actors work so hard to land the next gig. It gave me such satisfaction to book someone for Miss Behave that was so deserving.
4. What were some obstacles you faced while filming Miss Behave?
Money, money, money. Actually, it was in the pre-production faze….not during production. We waited for nearly a year for financing, and though we had much interest, I couldn’t wait any longer so I creatively financed it myself. We also initially had some location issues (we filmed the entire 1st season on location), but with the help of some amazing friends, we were able to create some fantastic sets that worked perfectly for our show!
5. How long is each episode?
Each webisode will be about 4 or 5 minutes. Our first season will feature 12 webisodes (and a shocking cliffhanger, I might add). We already have plans to shoot the second season this summer, and hopefully, we will be shooting 16-18 webisodes!
6. What are you planning on featuring along with the web-episodes?
We have many plans, including fashion blogs, musician spotlights, message boards, and other social networking opportunities, plus a Hollywood red-carpet launch party for the series. We are currently looking for advertisers that want to be part of our show so if you know of anybody looking to advertise on the next hit teen web series, please send them our way!
