Q & A with Elizabeth Gillies

What was it like on your first day of Victorious?
It was surreal. I couldn’t believe it was happening. Everything was absolutely perfect! The cast was incredible, the sets were beautiful…the whole Nickelodeon experience was everything I had imagined and more.
How would you describe your character Jade?
She’s the bad girl of Hollywood Arts. She’s very dark, very aggressive. She knows how to get what she wants. I have a lot of fun playing with all her different sides. She can go from being cold and emotionless to out of control at the drop of a hat.
What’s it like playing the diva, mean girl type character?
I love it. It’s always fun to play the bad girl.
Is this your first big role?
I was in a Broadway show last year, that was pretty big. I think this one would have to take the cake, though.
What’s it like working with the other cast members?
It’s wonderful. We all get along beautifully. We’re all very different kids. I think that’s what makes us click.
Did you think Victorious would be this big?
I had high hopes from the beginning. I think this show has a warmth about it that can easily touch something in everyone. It’s a really fun show. I’m so happy that people are loving it as much as we are!
Who has been your favorite person to work with so far?
Other than the amazing cast, I’d have to say Dan Schneider. I’ve learned so much from him! To work with somebody so talented and hysterical has been incredible.
Tell us about a normal day on set.
Well it all depends on whether it’s a shoot day or a rehearsal day. On a shoot day, we usually start in hair and makeup. Film all morning, break for lunch and then film until the end of the day. On a rehearsal day, we start the day by having a table read in the morning, where we read the script as a cast for the first time. After that, we rehearse it all day, and then we have a run through. A run through is sort of like a play for the writers and producers. We act the whole thing out and move from set to set. It’s a lot of fun!
What other types of things do you hope to accomplish?
Aside from VICTORIOUS, I’d love to make the transition into movies. I hope to have a long acting career. I’d also love to eventually direct and produce. I’m so passionate about this business! I wouldn’t trade it for the world!
Do you have a social network site where fans can reach you?
Yes! I have a Twitter. I update it all the time. I’m a little obsessed. Twitter.com/LizGillies !
