Sound On: Kaitlyn Maher

At only six years old, Kaitlyn Maher has a special gift that many people train for. “It was god’s gift to me” says Kaitlyn about her singing. She has never had a single singing lesson in her life, but boy can this girl sing. “I just love singing” she says.
Kaitlyn first entered our homes in 2008 when she was just four years old. Her parents got a surprise message from NBC telling them that they wanted to see Kaitlyn for the show AMERICAN’S GOT TALENT after her parents put up a video on Youtube of Kaitlyn singing. “I thought it was a scam” said her mom, “Then I called NBC and they said that it was really them and they wanted Kaitlyn to be on the show” Kaitlyn’s parents then talked about it and decided that as long as Kaitlyn wanted to do it, they would go for it. They showed her a few past clips from AMERICA’S GOT TALENT and Kaitlyn said she wanted to do it, and her dream was “to watch the sparkles fall down” during the finale. Kaitlyn went on the show and made it all the way to the top ten, but eventually didn’t win. However, NBC brought Kaitlyn back to sing on the finale allowing her dream of watching the sparkles fall down come true.
Since the show, Kaitlyn has been performing at many large
venues around the United States and in 2008 she performed at the White House for the President and 7,000+ people. Kaitlyn also completed her first film SANTA BUDDIES as the voice of Tiny which released last Christmas on DVD and Blu-ray.
Last November thru December, Kaitlyn spent her time in Vancouver shooting her first real life film called THE SEARCH FOR SANTA PAWS where she played the lead alongside Madison Pettis. “It was so much fun! Madison was like a big sister to me!” she says. She also told us that she got to work with some animals which was really fun for her and says that she loves dogs! Kaitlyn has also just finished another Disney movie called TREASURE BUDDIES where she plays the voice of Cammy the Camel, which is set to release in 2011.
Last November, Kaitlyn released her first album “You Were Meant to Be” which features ten songs, two of which Kaitlyn helped write. “My favorite song is You Were Meant to Be because I really like the message it sends to people.” She says. “I just feel really blessed with everything I’ve gotten to do” she says. Kaitlyn recorded the album when she was just five years old, in Nashville with a Grammy award winning team of producers and musicians who have previously played with Carrie Underwood, Garth Brooks, Vince Gill among others.
Kaitlyn although already pretty accomplished at only six years old, also loves being a regular kid. “I love playing with my little brother” she tells us. Her mom also shares how great of a big sister Kaitlyn is. “She is really great, she plays with him all the time, hugs him, he really loves her. Whenever she is away he asks for her.” Kaitlyn also says that she loves writing and reading and has been able to read since she was only two making her very advanced for her age.
Currently, Kaitlyn was chosen to be the first ever child ambassador for a charity called COMPASSION INTERNATIONAL which is one of the largest world’s aid organizations. “I’m excited to meet the other kids and touch them with music” she says. “I’ll get to travel all over the world giving food, clothing, and toys to the boys and girls in need, my first stop is Guatemala”. Kaitlyn is so enthusiastic when she talks about helping people as she feels truly blessed on what she has, and who she is.Â
